| Special features |
This 7-day family tour is customized for the descendants of Morris Phelps & Laura Clark Phelps and Parley P. Pratt. Spend the morning of July 4th with the Columbia Missouri Stake as they celebrate freedom and re-live the courageous events surrounding the escape of Morris Phelps, Parley P. Pratt, and King Follett from the Columbia Jail with Laura Clark Phelps risking her life by playing a bold role in their justifiable escape from the mobs who would have hung these men. Celebrate Laura's 200th birthday with her descendants at her new monument in the Nauvoo Cemetery. Three deceased Phelps babies will also be memorialized at the cemetery with markers placed on Laura's monument. Also, celebrate Parley P. Pratt's 200th birthday with his descendants. These courageous, faithful pioneers will no doubt be pleased to know that their descendants will join together to study the early days of the Church and their ancestors' involvement therein. Tour begins in Independence, travels in a deluxe, air-conditioned bus to Richmond, Liberty, Far West, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Columbia, Hannibal, Quincy, Nauvoo (Temple session included), and Carthage; then follows the Mormon Trail across Iowa to Winter Quarters with stops at Garden Grove and Mt. Pisgah settlements. Family members and friends (and NEW friends!) are welcome to join together to celebrate and honor these cherished pioneer ancestors. Mississippi River boat ride in Hannibal on July 4th! Inspirational lecture about the Lincoln-Douglas debate at the monument in Washington Park where it took place in Quincy, Illinois. 4th of July fireworks over the great Mississippi River! See the new Joseph Smith Pageant in Nauvoo. Optional sessions in the beautiful Nauvoo Temple! Testimony meeting and wagon ride at Mt. Pisgah on actual wagon trails used by the pioneers. Tour hosted by Hal W. Romrell and Judy Weber. Judy Weber is president and founder of the Morris & Laura Clark Phelps Family Organization. It was because of her inspirational and delightful experience traveling on a similar MHA tour with the Ezra T. Clark family organization that Judy determined the Phelps family should have the opportunity to experience celebrating their Phelps ancestors in this manner. Each tour day starts with a hymn and a prayer and ends the same way. Presentations on the bus while traveling between the sites are inspiring and informative. As much as practical, sites are visited in historical order to make this complex history easier to understand and remember. |
Summary:
Starts in Independence Missouri and ends at Winter Quarters Nebraska (Omaha). In-between,
more than 25 important church history sites are visited while gliding 900
miles through Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska in a deluxe air-conditioned bus.
Carefully-prepared vignettes and other
presentations are given regarding the sites and the people who lived there.
Specific emphasis regarding the Pratt and Phelps families' involvement in these
exciting, early days of the restored Church. Tour members who wish to participate, are invited to thoughtfully present
these insightful and accurate portrayals and histories.
Also, optional sessions in the Nauvoo Temple--one of the most beautiful temples in the
world! This is truly a superior tour at a
modest price. We hope you and your family can join us!
