DAY 3

Christian Rome

20160929_14460420160929_120107Morning visit to the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.  The present structure stands over the place where Constantine built the first church over Paul’s grave.  Off to the Vatican, home to one of the greatest museums in the world.  Enter the immense St Peter’s Basilica and Sistine Chapel to view Michelangelo’s frescoes which have been restored to their full, colorful glory.  Finish the day at the Pantheon, built by Marcus Agrippa during the reign of Augustus (27BC to 14AD).  Emperor Hadrian rebuilt it around 126AD.  Enjoy an Italian dinner at a Rome restaurant before returning to the hotel just outside the city.
DAY 4

Ancient Rome

20160930_112240Ecolosseum-stockxplore the history that winds through the streets and neighborhoods of Rome as in no other city.  Visit ancient Rome at the magnificent Colosseum and Mamertine Prison–where Paul was held prisoner.  From the most sacred hill of ancient Rome, Campidoglio, view the Forum.  See the Circus Maximus, Arch of Titus, famous Baths of Caracalla and Arch of Constantine, the Victor Emanuel Monument.  Climb the graceful Spanish Steps and stop at the famous Trevi Fountain.  Say arrivederci Roma (‘til we meet again, Rome!) and transfer to Civitavecchia to board the impressive Jewel of the Seas, 5pm departure.
DAY 5

Messina & Taormina

20161001_110709Arrive in Messina, Sicily- a city rich in history and the connecting point of the “Italian Boot.”  In neighboring Taormina, climb to the mountaintop Greek Theater with its spectacular views of the Mediterranean and Mt Etna.  Enjoy a gelato and shopping or simply wander the streets to absorb the delightful culture and catch breathtaking views over the cliffs to the seaside below.

Shore excursions booked on your own through Royal Caribbean.

DAY 10

Athens & Corinth, Greece

acropolisThe architectural splendors of the ancient city of Athens are as magical as ever.  View the world-renowned Acropolis, the Propylaea, and the Parthenon.  Climb Mars Hill where Paul debated with the intellectual community of his day.  Walk among the ruins of the agora and center of Athenian public life.  View the Olympic Stadium before traveling to Corinth, the city that inspired Paul’s most familiar letter.  Archaeological museum, market place, temples.  Walk among the ruins and stand on the Bema where Paul stood to defend the gospel.
