Sites Visited:

Niagara Falls USA
Begin the tour at the awesome Niagara Falls USA to spend the first night of our journey.  Enjoy the magnificent Falls with the thrilling Maid of the Mist boat ride!  Enjoy time to explore the falls, river, overlook, and Goat Island.  We will tour this area before the church history portion begins to avoid interrupting the uplifting spiritual effect of the following consecutive experiences.

Mendon
Brigham Young
, his father, and all nine of Brigham’s living brothers and sisters joined the Church here in 1832.  So did their spouses, some of whom were Methodist ministers.  All went through immense hardships as a result, yet none ever apostatized.  Heber C. Kimball joined the Church here, too.  Heber’s father is buried here, as is Brigham’s first wife, Miriam Works Young.  Heber tells of how he and many others in the town saw a stunning vision in the night sky here at the time Joseph Smith received the plates of the Book of Mormon in Palmyra!  This is a wonderful, wonderful stop!

Palmyra
Visit the indescribably inspiring Sacred Grove including personal meditation time.  Smith family farm – rebuilt log home where Moroni visits took place, restored frame home where the plates were hidden under the hearth.  Tour the Grandin Press (site of the first Book of Mormon printing), Martin Harris farm, Palmyra Cemetery, and Palmyra Temple grounds.  Discover fascinating stories and insights on early 1900s missionaries, Elder Willard Bean and Sister Rebecca Bean who paved the way for the Church to return to the area and to be welcomed by the locals.

Cumorah
Enjoy the fantastic Hill Cumorah, just outside of Palmyra, where Moroni directed Joseph Smith to go for 4 years until he could receive the plates for the Book of Mormon!  Hear and bear testimony of the divinity of this sacred volume’s words.  Among other things, we’ll share the inspiring story of the Moroni statue’s sculptor’s divine guidance of exactly how to create the unique look of the statue.

Fayette
This site is not to be overlooked!  Peter Whitmer Farm where the Church was first organized and the first conference held.  Imagine the scene here from April 6, 1830!  Site of the visions to the Three Witnesses, Book of Mormon translation finished, many Doctrine & Covenants sections received, many baptisms took place nearby (Joseph Sr and Lucy Mack Smith, Martin Harris, Porter Rockwell, to name a few…).  While Joseph Smith lived here, this home was the headquarters of the Church.  Beautifully re-built Whitmer cabin and lovely visitor’s center and chapel.

Harmony
Newly re-built home of Joseph & Emma Smith – where most of the Book of Mormon translation took place; the birth and death of their first child; 15 revelations received here are now Doctrine & Covenants sections.  They lived here December 1827-August 1830 having fled from Palmyra where persecution was intense for safety among Emma’s family 150 miles away.  Newly re-built home of Emma’s father & mother, Isaac & Elizabeth Hale – Isaac was a prominent citizen, well-established, and very respected in the community.  New Visitor’s Center/Chapel with missionary hosts, films, exhibits.
Susquehanna River improved access – Joseph Smith & Oliver Cowdery received the Aaronic Priesthood from a resurrected John the Baptist after which they were commanded to and now had proper authority to baptize each other in this very river.

Colesville & South Bainbridge
Enjoy the lovingly restored homes of Joseph Knight Sr (also home of the Colesville Branch with Hyrum Smith as its first Branch President) and Josiah Stoal (where Joseph & Emma “courted” and also spent their first few days as newlyweds).  The Whitmers and Stoals were dear friends to Joseph Smith and were among the first to believe Joseph as he told of how the heavens were re-opened and that the gospel was being restored!
