- January 7, 1836 (Thursday) – A sumptuous feast, to which the lame, the halt and the blind were invited, was held in Bishop Newel K. Whitney’s house, at Kirtland.
- January 12, 1838 (Friday) – Joseph Smith, jun., and Sidney Rigdon left Kirtland, O., on horseback to escape mob violence. They traveled toward Missouri.
- January 1841 – The first British edition of the Book of Mormon was published in Manchester, England.
- January 12, 1842 (Wednesday) – The ship Tremont sailed from Liverpool with 143 Saints bound for Nauvoo via New Orleans.
- January 1910 – The first number of the “Utah Genealogical and Historical Magazine” was published in Salt Lake City; Anthon H. Lund, editor
- January 7, 1912 (Sunday) – The recently constructed tabernacle at Rexburg, Idaho, was dedicated by Pres. Joseph F. Smith.
